Ghana is to focus on thermal energy production to meet its current energy demand, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Buah, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, said on Tuesday. He said the current economic growth, coupled with massive industrialization, continued to increase Ghana�s energy demand by 10 per cent annually which called for stringent measures to meet the country�s energy needs. Mr Buah said this in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Ras Liberty Amewode, Deputy Head of Communications at the Ministry, at a three-day workshop in Takoradi to equip journalists with the skills and terminologies to report on oil and gas issues. It was organised by the Energy and Petroleum Ministry together with the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee. The Minister said Government was committed to meeting the country�s energy needs and would, therefore, harness all resources necessary to achieve that goal. He said gas plants and other such infrastructure being constructed across the country was to boost alternative sources of energy generation for the country. Mr Stephen Dow, Lecturer in law and Policy at the University of Dundee, and a training facilitator, took participants through topics such as Oil and Gas Industry and Law, Local Content, Drilling Contracts and Gas Pricing among others. Mr Moses Aklorbortu, Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, said building the capacity of the media was imperative in order for it to play its watch-dog role and serve as development partners.
