Ursula: Media Fund Disbursement & Distribution Of Laptops Was Info Ministry's 2013 Achievement No.1

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Mrs. Ursula Ekufful has asked government and the Ministry of Education to come clean on the number of laptops disbursed from the Media Development Fund. This is because, according to the MP, the number of laptops alleged to have been disbursed by the Ministry of Information is different from what the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications was made to believe. This issue came up when we (Parliamentary Select Committee on Communication) were analyzing the budget for the Ministry of Information. On the top list of their 2013 achievements was the distribution of 952 laptops to the media. How they utilized the media fund was achievement no. 1. Up till now, we dont know who was involved in the decision making process, when the decision (to purchase laptops) was made and how it was made, she told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FMs Kokrokoo programme. She has asked the media to do more probing into the disbursement because to use the entire GHC 1 Million to purchase just laptops; its too expensive. Out of the GH 1 Million media fund, how many laptops did they buy because they told us in parliament that they had 952 laptopsthis is contrary to what is in the media nowthey gave no indication that they used some of the money in buying the laptops. If you used GHC 1m to buy laptops, then how much is one laptop? It means somebody at the Ministry of Information is not telling us the truth, she indicated.
