It started as a mere rumor but current events show that the rift between human rights activist and minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur and her Deputy Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh is now deeper than ever envisaged. The two have not been on talking terms for a while and the situation is now out of control. At the Wedding of Ms Appoh, a mother of one - now Mrs Opoku, Nana Oye Lithur declined invitation to the ceremony that had the vice president of Ghana Amissah-Arthur, Ato Ahwoi, Interior Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi and other ministers in attendance. The absence of Oye Lithur, whose husband Tony Lithur controls three ministries according to former deputy Communication minister Victoria Hammah only goes to confirm how bad the enmity between the ministers has gotten to. Though Mrs Lithur�s absence was foreseen, ministers and NDC officials who attended the ceremony with Abeiku Santana of Okay FM as master of Ceremony felt she should have at least been at the reception to demonstrate to the family of Appoh that their difference was not that bad after all. A leading member of the NDC told the Publisher newspaper that the situation at the Gender Ministry is the reflection of the power-struggle within Agona East NDC. He explained, Appoh is the darling of the Ahwois since she campaigned for Kwesi Ahwoi during the Agona East primaries which Kwesi Ahwoi lost. The Agona East MP who defeated the interior minister and now deputy central regional minister, Maame Pokua, is a close friend of Nana Oye Lithur and so �its sort of deal with my enemy�s friend for me,� he lamented. The Ahwois still feel president Mahama had a hand in the defeat of Kwesi in the Agona East primaries and so has increased the mistrust between the Ahwois and President Mahama. Though Kwesi Ahwoi has been appointed as Interior minister, a very sensitive position by the same man who allegedly plotted his defeat to scuttle his presidential ambition, some political observers consider the appointment as an atonement of political sin. Like rivals in a marriage, Pokuaa and Appoh do nt talk to each other, although the Central regional council of Elders of the NDC which includes Faustina Nelson, Dr. Don Arthur and others have tried but unsuccessfully failed to bring the two deputy ministers together. Pokuaa has been accused by NDC members in Gomoa Central of fueling the ongoing battle between Oye Lithur and Rachel Appoh.
