Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2012 flagbearer of the Progressive People�s Party, has expressed hope that better days are ahead for the country as it is being ushered into the New Year, 2014. He has, therefore, enjoined all those in leadership positions to fight and work hard to improve the living conditions of workers, the poor, aged and children. In his goodwill message to mark the Yuletide, Dr Nduom expressed the hope that �when we the people complain about difficulties that confront us, as we live in our own country, leaders in government will show us some respect and talk to us in a manner to give us hope for a better tomorrow.� He also expressed the hope that �our country men and women would find in their hearts a will to support Ghanaian enterprises to become stronger, more prosperous, and that our government would support them through the judicious use of its purchasing power.� He called on President John D. Mahama to ensure that the 1992 Constitution was amended to allow the people to elect their own district/municipal/metropolitan chief executives. Dr Nduom also implored the President to ensure that the 1992 Constitution was amended to separate the office of Attorney-General from the Ministry of Justice so that an independent prosecutor could effectively lead in the war against corruption. As we celebrate Christmas and look forward to a prosperous, peaceful and joyful New Year, Dr Nduom has enjoined all Ghanaians to give thanks to God Almighty for His grace, guidance and forgiveness. �Through all our challenges, He has kept this country together. Truly, the year 2013 has been a challenging one, but truly, God has been good to the Ghanaian,� he stated. According to Dr Nduom, under other circumstances, allegations of corruption, mismanagement and theft of both public and private resources as have been alleged in Ghana would have caused massive upheaval and unrest. But, he said, �we Ghanaians have been spared. The sins of our leaders - the government, public service, religious and business people- have not been visited on the people. Our people have absorbed hikes in prices of electricity, water, petroleum products, VAT, and are hoping for the best as we enter the New Year. We are a special people.� �I wish all Ghanaians, our President, religious and private business leaders good health, tolerance for each other's opinions and a good life in 2014,� he concluded.
