Rawlings Missing @ 31 Dec. Revolution Commemoration

Former President Jerry John Rawlings was conspicuously missing at todays commemoration of the 31st December revolution which he led exactly 32 years ago. Aside his absence, there were just a hand full of sympathizers and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The day is always celebrated by the former president and members of the then Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) who also overthrew Dr. Hilla Liman for economic mismanagement. The reason for the revolution according to its followers was to fight corruption and injustice in those days. Meanwhile, Former President Rawlings in a statement reiterated his belief in the principles that led to the 31st December revolution in 1981. "Some of us cannot and will never depart from the principles that led to the revolution and sustained it for so long. We shall continue to confront the rot that is eroding the values many laid down their lives for. The struggle continues!" The former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) in a message to mark the 32nd anniversary of the revolution that overthrew the government of late Dr. Hilla Limann, maintained his resolve to "continue to confront the rot that is eroding the values many laid down their lives for". Mr. Rawlings also used the occasion to commend the "cadres, foot soldiers and the millions of Ghanaians who in diverse ways played a role in the decade that stopped the rot". He also urged Ghanaians to all help in the fight against corruption as he said the ''challenge is not one only for political leadership". "We all have a role to play in instilling sound values of probity, accountability, freedom and justice in our society,'' He stressed.
