GNPC Promises Big Package For Black Stars

The board chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Ato Ahwoi, has promised a special package for the Black Stars if they reach the semi-finals of the Brazil 2014 World Cup. At a GFA awards and dinner night in Accra last Friday, Mr Ahwoi said the board would discuss the details of the package with the management of GNPC and announce it in due course. Expressing his gratitude to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after he was honoured together with other individuals and sponsors of the Premier League and the Black Stars, he pledged GNPCs endless support for the team. I wish to assure the Black Stars that the GNPC will continue to support them as long as we continue to remain in business, he noted. The GFA awards, which attracted major sports personalities in the country, saw Ato Ahwoi being honoured as the most successful club board chairman for leading Accra Hearts of Oak to the CAF Champions League and Super Cup feats in 2000 and 2001, as well as leading the GNPC to sponsor the Black Stars. Other individual recipients included Justice N.S. Gbadegbe, Nutifafa Kuenyehia, Justice I. R. Aboagye, Kenneth John Fia, Justice Tanko Amadu, and Justice Anim Yeboah, while the late John Edzi received a posthumous award. Sponsors of the Black Stars, GNPC, Puma, Glo, Guinness Ghana Limited, Unibank, Supersport, MTN, Latex Foam, CCTC, Airtel and Voltic were all presented with plaques in recognition of their contribution towards the development of the team. Earlier, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, minister for Youth and Sports, observed ambush marketing as the biggest threat to the sponsors and assured that his outfit would collaborate with the GFA to ensure they derived maximum benefit from their sponsorship.
