Public Advised To Use Water Judiciously

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has advised the public to utilise treated water wisely in view of the dwindling water levels of the Inchaban and the Daboase water treatment plants. The two dams produce 10 million gallons of water per day during raining season, however, the figure had reduced to six million gallons a day as a result of the Harmattan. Mr Kwamena Acquah, Western Regional Communications Officer of the GWCL, told the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi that the treatment plants did not receive sufficient raw water from the Pra and Anankor rivers for treatment. This, he said, had necessitated periodic water rationing to residents in Sekondi-Takoradi and its surrounding communities. Mr Acquah indicated that the water level at the Inchaban water treatment plant reduced from 4.5 metres to 3.0 metres late last year. The Communication Officer also attributed the frequent water shortage and rationing in the twin-city to activities of small-scale miners resulting in heavy siltation in various water sources and occasional power outages.
