Couple In Court For Inflicting Wounds On Son

A couple who inflicted blade wounds on the fingers of their 10-year-old son for allegedly stealing has been put before the Accra Circuit Court. The father of the boy, Morison Adenkor, a 43-year-old lotto dealer, and the mother, Angelina Adeki, 32, a labourer in a company in Accra, used a razor blade to cut the finger tips of their son on January 4, 2014. The victim, Elorm Adenkor, lives with his parents in a family house at McCarthy Hill Down in Accra. He was accused of stealing an unspecified amount of coins which his father had left in their room and also fish and meat from soup prepared by his mother. Stealing of coins The court, presided by Ms Ellen V. Amoah, heard that the boy was a truant who had been stealing money from his father and buying items on credit in the name of his parents. After hearing the facts of the case, Ms Amoah granted the couple bail with surety to reappear on February 5, 2014. Good Samaritan The Odorkor Police arrested the couple after a good samaritan had filed a complaint that same day, January 4, 2014. Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, the District Police Commander had told the Daily Graphic that about 6a.m. on that day, the father of the victim accused him of stealing his coins and meat from the soup prepared by his mother. Though the boy denied the allegation, his father advised him to desist from the act or he will teach him a lesson. Thereafter, Mr Acquaye said the father took a razor blade and used it to open wounds on the fingertips of the boy. Mothers role While the victim bled profusely, Adeki, the mother, who was at the scene, looked on and ordered the boy to sit while the father inflicted the wounds without her asking the man to stop the act of causing harm to their son. Later the couple went out and left the victim, who was still bleeding, to his fate in their room. At about 7:30 p.m, a good samaritan, who saw the contact of a journalist while watching a programme on television, called the journalist, who reported the case to police. The Odorkor commander dispatched a team of security officers to rescue the victim. The victim was sent to the Police Hospital in Accra, where his fingers were stitched. The father of the victim was charged with causing harm, while the mother was charged with abetment of crime.
