CAF Competitions Must Define Awards - Nyantakyi

Kwesi Nyantakyi, president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has underscored the need to hinge the Confederation of African Football�s (CAF) annual awards on organized competitions by the continental body. Nyantakyi told GNA Sports that the CAF organized competitions must carry a chunk of the points to determine the winner of the African Footballer of the Year award. He said the move would put premium on CAF organized tournament and increase competition. According to Nyatakyi, the performance of John Obi Mikel at the last edition of the African Cup of Nations far outweighs that of Yaya Toure taking into consideration that, Nigeria won the tournament in the year under review. �Obi Mikel also led Nigeria to the Confederations Cup Competition in Brazil after leading Nigeria to win the continental trophy. �Based on these, one can easily say Obi Mikel deserves to win the 2013 African Footballer of the Year, but in every awards there are controversies and this cannot go without one�. He said though Toure had been in a great shape in the last three years and deserved to win the award, a direct comparison of his achievement on the continent puts the Nigeria in a best position. Toure beat competition from Obi to claim the gong for the third time running
