I Robbed To Buy A Ticket To America

One of two armed robbers arrested for robbing two Ghanaian footballers of their laptops and cash and stabbing one in the head with a pair of scissors has told the police that his reason for engaging in the robbery was to help him acquire a plane ticket to America. Kwadwo Twumasi said he has an American visa and needed money to buy a plane ticket and also finance his trip. However, his family did not want to assist him so he went on a robbery mission to raise funds to travel to America. Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Augustine Gyening said the incident took place at an internet caf at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya District. He said Kwadwo Twumasi, alias Rebel, 21, a motorbike seller resident at Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi, and Kwadwo Antwi, alias MC, 23, a drivers mate, were alleged to have stolen three laptops, three mobile phones, one iPad and cash, totalling GH?6,800, on January 7 this year at around 9.30pm at the Executive Internet Caf at Abuakwa. The third accomplice, only known as Cargo, is at large and police have mounted a search for him. The Ghanaian footballers Kwadwo Kankam, based in Serbia; and Michael Oppong, based in Qatar were in the country for the Christmas holidays and met at the caf where they had sent their laptops for programming. DCOP) Gyening said that on the day in question, the suspects, together with the one at large, stormed the caf armed with pistols, knives and scissors and attacked the people at the caf. He said Twumasi, who was leading the group, asked those at the caf at the time, including the attendant, one Yeboah Dankwa, to move into a corner of the caf whilst the other two searched them and picked their laptops. According to him, the police through investigation managed to arrest Twumasi on January 10, who led the police to arrest Antwi the same day. The police retrieved the laptops and two of the mobile phones robbed from the caf.
