Abrogation Of GYEEDA Contracts Due To NPPs Relentless Pressure On Mahama

A member of the communication team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Asamoah Gyamfi is singing the praises of his party saying the decision to terminate the contracts of Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) with its service providers was as a result of the pressure mounted on President John Dramani Mahama by the opposition. A letter signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu last week, indicated that the contract of: Rlg Communication's training module, Asongtaba Cottage Industry & Exchange Program (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, the parent company of Zoomlion, had been terminated. Some political pundits have described the action as a cover up while others have argued that the termination of these contracts can create another judgment debt for the country. But speaking to Okay Fm on the issue, Asamoah Gyamfi believes the cancellation of the contracts was long overdue as some of the contract terms have rather impoverished Ghanaian workers and made the service providers richer. .it is good that the contracts have been terminated; it was long overdue because a lot of the contracts especially those signed with Rlg have not been executed but full payment has been made for the whole contracts while contractors who have gone for loans to build schools in our villages have not been paid by the government, he pontificated. He asserted that the opposition NPP should be commended for the pressure it mounted on President Mahama to act on the GYEEDA report, though the abrogation cannot solve the corruption perpetuated by government appointees. we said it and we lashed the back of President Mahama before he did the right thing regarding the contracts with Zoomlion and Rlg..I think we in the opposition deserve commendation because it was through our pressure on the President that these contracts were abrogatedIf the President is really committed to fighting corruption, he should have interdicted the ministers and appointees who were mentioned in the GYEEDA report; we are not asking him to arrest them, he averred.
