An aspiring National Women�s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mawusi Nudekor Awity, has promised to encourage more women to engage in political campaigns that would get the party into power come 2016.
�We would be involved in vigorous door-to-door campaign, from hamlets to villages through towns and cities,� she said about the participation of women in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Women Empowerment
Ms Awity is a social entrepreneur and founder of the Network of Women in Growth, a non-governmental organisation that empowers women in vocational and entrepreneurial skills and also assists them to set up and run their businesses.
Speaking at the launch of her campaign at the Dubois Centre in Accra, Ms Awity said her aim was to empower women to fight for the socio-economic and political rights of others within and outside the NPP.
With a record of supporting and empowering rural women to be economically sound, the entrepreneur said the lack of income-generating skills posed obstacles to the empowerment of women.
�Women who have no independent sources of income are more likely to be shut out of major household decisions. I will drive the women�s wing to higher pedestal of an institutional mechanism for promoting women�s empowerment by utilising the talents of all the great experts we have in the party.�
She promised to promote and create jobs for the benefit of all Ghanaians during her tenure as the national women�s organiser.
Party Slogans
The venue, decorated with NPP party colours, was charged with NPP party songs as the women chanted slogans.
The campaign launch was graced by the wife of the NPP chairman, Esther Obetsebi Lamptey; a former First Vice Chairperson, Mrs Agnes Okudjeto, and constituency and regional women organisers of the party from across the country.
Later,funds were raised to support Ms Awity�s cause.
Mrs Agnes Okudjeto, who described Ms Awity as a humble woman with all the qualities that makes her a good leader, urged the women in the party to support her.
