Tarkwa Police Command To Inspect Gold Buying Agents

Inspection exercise will soon be carried out at the offices of all Gold Buying Agents also known as Gold dealers operating in the municipality by the Tarkwa Divisional Police. Gold dealers have also been warned against employing people to work without going through the necessary security procedures. These were made known by the Divisional Police Commander ACP Paul Aryitey during an interactive meeting held to sensitize the gold buying agents on the dos and donts of their work. He said last year there were about 15 robbery cases in the Municipality and 80% of them were related to gold buying agents, hence the need to organize the meeting. ACP Paul Aryitey hinted that there could be a possibility of money laundering in the gold buying business, so his command will follow up with an inspection exercise to flush out those suspected to be taking part in the money laundering business. The meeting also provided the opportunity for the police to outdoor their willingness to work in line with the gold buyers to guard against robbery attacks. He advised the agents to adopt the use of cheques in their operations transactions rather than cash, and seek to unionize their group so as to clamp down on internal divisions. He hinted that as a unified body, the gold buyers will be able enact laws that will govern their operations. The buyers were also advised to avoid living affluently as it could make them vulnerable to attacks.
