No Major Upset At NPP Congress

There was no major upset at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Congress held in Tema on Saturday. Mr Ishmael Ashitey retained the chair after beating Mr Isaac Ammo by 334 to 205 votes at an election which most delegates had predicted an easy run for the former Minister of Fisheries. Mr Alfred Boye was elected First Vice Chairperson while Mr Albert Okyere secured the Second Vice Chairperson position. Mr Rexford Frempong won a landslide victory of 430 to 109 over Mr Adjei Sowah to be become the Secretary but Mr Abdul Rahman had to overcome a field of four contestants to win the Deputy Secretary position. Nii Kwartey Kwartei won the Treasurer post while Achibold Cobbina secured the Regional Organiser position. Madam Joyce Zimpale convincingly won the Women organiser post by earning 364 votes despite the seemingly overwhelming appeal of Vida Owusu who only bagged 115 votes. Prince Obeng emerged as the winner of the Youth organiser post from a field of seven contestants. Alhaji Aminu Abu won the Nasara Co-ordinator post. Sixteen delegates from each of the 31 constituencies took part in the voting. Okai Koi North and South and Krowor delegates were absent from the congress, which was contested by 33 aspirants.
