NPP Now Personality Cult?

Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) fear their party would soon collapse in the countrys body politics and winning political power would be very difficult in the near future. The reason, according to some angry party faithful(s), who spilled out their sentiments in an exclusive interview with Today, is as a result of the deepening factionalism in the party. And this factionalism, which is cut along the lines of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, was at its peak at the partys regional elections held at the weekend. During the elections it was observed that many of the aspirants associated themselves with either Nana Addo or Alan Kyeremanten to attain the approval of the delegates. In the partys stronghold of Ashanti Region, contestants for the regional chairmanship position had to make use of this to woo delegates gathered in Kumasi to vote for them. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, affectionately called, Wontumi who won with 559 votes and his closest contender, Osei Kwame Prempeh, had the picture of Nana Akufo-Addo embossed on their posters to confirm to delegates that they are for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This action nonetheless attracted the condemnation of various speakers at the party event as who stressed has the potential to divide the party. NPP will elect its national executives in March 2014.
