Nkrumah's Birthplace To Get University

Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, the birth town of Ghana�s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is to have its first university, the Institute of Science and Humanities. The University is a brain child of the Kobbinah family at home and abroad and two academicians. Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony at Nkroful Mr. Dichie Kobbinah, a lecturer at a Catholic university in Australia, said the university would also open up the area to promote economic activities. It has accreditation from the National Accreditation Board and is now running programmes at the premises of the Kobbinah family. Professor Lewis Enu-Kwesi of the Botany Department of the University of Ghana said the university would enable the region to produce quality manpower. Nana Kwasi Kutuwa, Nkroful Chief, called for a special quota for the indigenes as well as scholarship scheme to enable more people to acquire higher education. Awulae Annor Adjaye 111, Paramount Chief of Western Nzema, commended the Kobinnah family for the project and praised the chief of Nkroful for leasing land for the completion of the University.
