The morning show host for Oman FM and NET2 TV, Fiifi Boafo, has admitted that the owner of the station, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is a rather difficult guest to interview. Kennedy is currently making headlines over statements he recently made about the leadership of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during a radio interview. Not too long ago, Kennedy was kept under lock and key and made to pass a few nights in police custody over similar inflammatory statements he made, again, during a radio interview. Fiifi disclosed this to News-One during an interview conducted by Halifax Ansah-Addo. Please read on: Honourable Fiifi Boafo Hahahaha, honourable for where? I am just Fiifi. Who would vote for me? You have been on radio and TV for years. Altogether, some 12 years now and it has been challenging, interesting and an experience that has been worth it. Rewarding? I would rather say it has been fulfilling. I enjoy what I do and what I get from it. It is not necessarily money or wealth or fame. I�m not interested in that. My fulfilment is when people appreciate what I do. It makes me feel I am playing a role that helps shape the nation, affect people and helps the forward march we are all looking at. Sometimes you need to slow down a little bit and take it easy. My doctor has asked me to slow down. I had a serious stomach upset some months ago and my doctor after checking me realized I had gastritis. His conclusion was that I was overworking and not eating properly. Your doctor did not mention anything cardiac-related. Oh no. This has to do with eating habits and it could lead to culture. But how do people perceive you politically, considering the owner of your station Kennedy Agyapong? I honestly think most people I come across appreciate what I do. Rarely do you meet someone who has an issue with my style. People have a perception about the company I work for and robe us all into that perception. But with time, they have realized we mean no mischief and neither do we spite anyone. We have a genuine agenda for the nation and with time, people have realized we are not enemies. My conscience is my guide and once my conscience is right, I go ahead based on conviction. You have had cause to interview your boss on live radio. Sure, I have interviewed him on a couple of occasions. Is he a difficult person to interview? I see him just like any other person I interview. I have no special treatment for him. The fact that I work for him does not make me his spokesperson or does not mean the issues change when I interview him. I just do my work and treat him just like any other guest. Is he a difficult guest to interview? I think Ken is one of the very difficult guests I deal with and there is no doubt about this. I was interviewing him on my previous station, Adom FM, before I joined Oman FM and Ken has not changed. I am sure other morning show hosts who do not work for him would tell you he is a difficult person to interview. But the media still love him. A BBC journalist once asked Mugabe why he was still President at this old age and his response was that the journalist should go ask the Queen why she was still queen at her age. Yet, give any international journalist an interview with Mugabe any day and the person would jump at it. Are you are a ladies� man? I don�t think so. Hahahahahaha. Why the laughter? That�s a popular perception about you. I laughed because the question was funny. If that is true then my wife must be privileged to have me, hahahahaha. Who is your wife? I am married and I have two kids; a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. The question was who is your wife? I�ve tried as much as possible to keep my private life private. My wife�s name is Gloria. I hear you are back in school. Yes I am in school. I am studying Law but please I don�t want you to ask about it in the media. How did you get into radio? That was through a campus-based radio station by name Dynamite FM at Tarkwa. I went on air as a guest but was later invited to host the show. It was funny, but I took my chances and that was it. I did almost everything there from reading of news to playing of gospel music. From there I moved to Space FM, to Adom FM then to Oman FM and Net 2 TV. Do you have political ambitions? It is not part of my dreams and plans as a person growing up. Politics does not fall within my plans or ambitions but in life, you never say never. I wanted to be a Reverend Minister or a Lawyer but here I am doing radio. So you never know what happens in the future. But I do not want to be a politician. Are you politically active? I think so because of the nature of my job. I am very active and I am a political animal for that matter. I do politics a lot on my show. You do politics from NPP perspective. Oh no. My station has an editorial policy and that�s what I follow. So how do you handle other guests who are not NPP? I treat all guests same and equal without fear or favour, affection or ill-will. I keep my eyes on the ball when dealing with politicians. They would usually not tell you the exact truth so you have to be tough on them. Finally what should we expect from Fiifi Boafo in 2014? It is my hope and belief to do things better than I have done in the past. I am looking for an improvement in everything I do. I also want to take up a few specific issues beyond politics, champion them and make an impact which would be beneficial to society. Thanks Fiifi. You are welcome.
