Members of the Paga youth group in the Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region have described as unfair charges levelled against their Member of Parliament, Abuga Pele.
Commercial Court Division one of an Accra High Court last Friday begun trial of the case involving former National Coordinator of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Abuga Pele and Managing Director of Goodwill Consultancy Firm, Philip Akpene Assibit.
The two were indicted on a report released by a committee that investigated some financial malfeasance uncovered at the GYEEDA headquarters.
Both the first accused person, Philip Akpene Assibit and Hon. Abuga Pele, the second accused have been charged on 19 counts, including willfully causing financial loss to the state which they have denied.
Constituents in Chiana-Paga have described the charges levelled against Abuga Pele as an attempt to use him as a sacrificial lamb in the GYEEDA scandal.
They have also threatened to vote against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), if the criminal charges levelled against the MP are not dropped.
Speaking to Citi News, the leader of Paga Youth, Donald Puumyemiri, also said the group is disappointed in the ousting of Abuga Pele and deems it unfair.
�It is very sad to note that the very person who started investigations into GYEEDA is the one who is being called for prosecution. Can this be fair?�Mr Puumyemiri said
According to him, Abuga Pele during his term of office chalked remarkable feat.
�The youth of this country will attest to the fact that Abuga Pele did his best for GYEEDA. It is very clear that during his term of office, the youth were given more attention and many good modules were created to help the youth of our nation.�
