Expand Infrastructure To Meet High Demands Kofi Buah Tells GRIDCo

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Armah Kofi Buah has charged the board members of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), to expand the infrastructure base of the company to meet both domestic and foreign demands. He said GRIDCo must be committed to achieving the medium term plan of government to generate 5000 megawatts of power by 2015. Speaking at the inauguration of the 6-member board of the company, Mr. Buah challenged the board members to ensure the completion of all GRIDCo projects. He mentioned the projects at Prestea, Kumasi, Aboadze, Kejebi and all others across the country and admonished GRIDCo to as a matter of urgency complete them because it will make sure that we have a very robust transmission infrastructure. Mr. Buah added that the projects will also ensure Ghana is energy sufficient and it will subsequently boost the growth of the economy. According to the sector Minister, it is very critical for transmission to go all the way Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and all the way to Nigeria and it will be in the best interest of GRIDCo if they become the preferred champion in transmission in the sub-region.
