MPs Adopt Tweaeea

The Twi word tweaa, is gradually finding its way into the lexicon of the countrys parliamentarians in expressing dissatisfaction or disagreement with somebody or something. Some Minority members on Wednesday used it against the Majority leader, Benjamin Kunbour, when he supported the speaker's call to sanction the Member or Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Frank Boakye Agyen, who was said to have made some comments against the Speaker which were in contempt of Parliament. At Fridays sitting too, Minority members decided to use the word against the Speaker when he adjourned sitting without doing any serious business. Sitting was adjourned to Tuesday, February 4, after members made some few contributions to the business statement for next week. The Minority had objected to the adjournment thinking that there could be some business for the house. As the Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho rose from his chair and was leaving the Chamber after he adjourned proceedings amidst Minoritys protestation, they started echoing Tweaea, Tweaea in unison as the Speaker left the Chamber amidst laughter. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Justice Joe Appiah, had enquired about the status of the Job 600 building (which is to serve as offices for Members of Parliament) and also how soon works would be completed for MPs to have offices to work from. In a response, the Speaker said after the $25 million loan agreement was approved by parliament last year for completion of work on the building, some legal issues arose in connection with the loan. According to the Speaker, the Minister of Finance just assured him that the Attorney-General had successfully dealt with the legal issues and so the money would be released any moment from now to complete works on the Job 600. The NPP MP for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, who spoke to Daily Guide on the issue said the Government had paid so much lip service to the growth of Parliament. According to him, if the Government had any regards for the critical nature of duties of legislators, it would have long completed work on the building. Government pumps little money into the project and leaves it to rot again and pumps another money and leaves it to waste. So what stops the Government from finding the money in bulk to complete work on the building? he queried. Daily Guide.
