It Doesnt Make Sense For Unemployed Graduates To Go On Hunger Strike

A member of the Mahama-led administration communication machinery, Frank Nii Darko says he cannot fathom why unemployed graduates in their quest for job opportunities should go on hunger strikes. To him, it is a useless venture to engage in when many teaching opportunities are available. Some unemployed graduates in the country on Tuesday January 14, 2014 embarked on a hunger strike against government in protest against lack of available jobs on the market. The over a hundred graduates from both private and public universities in the country under the umbrella body, Graduate Initiative Africa (GIA) say the Mahama-led administration has failed students. Corporate Affairs Director of the group, Prince Twumasi in an interview with Citi News said the hunger strike was to demonstrate their displeasure against government's failure to provide them jobs or support them to be self-employed. He explained that Graduate Initiative Africa is a non-governmental organization that has mobilized unemployed graduates interested in entrepreneurship but efforts to get funding from government has proven futile. He described as unfortunate how government is frustrating the efforts of young graduates who only need assistance to be self-employed. Since government is unwilling to create the needed platform for us to channel our resources, then it should be ready to empower us he stressed. But speaking to the issue on Okay Fm, Frank Nii Darko was of the firm belief the courses the graduates studied should be able to offer them teaching jobs. they are saying they are going on demonstration because they dont have jobs but what did they study at the Universities? Are they no more classrooms they can go and teach? It doesnt make sense for unemployed graduates to go on hunger strike..the hunger strike is completely useless. They can teach History, English and Marketing or Economics, depending on what they studied at the University, he slammed.
