Commissioner of Police (COP) Prosper Agblor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has warned corrupt officers to reform or be prepared to face the law.
Detectives who engaged in negative practices, including the demand for money before granting bail to suspects, he said, should stop for their own good, and urged the people to be bold and report offenders.
COP Agblor gave the warning when he opened a two-week capacity building training for 170 selected police investigators in Ashanti at the Police Training School at Patasi in Kumasi.
The goal is to adequately expose them to new methods to fight crime, which is getting increasingly sophisticated everyday.
Among areas to be covered during the training period, are basic investigative skills, interrogation and interviews, identification methods, surveillance and searches, docket building, arrest, detention and human rights and criminal law.
The CID Director-General underlined the need to uphold high standards of professionalism and respect for the fundamental rights of suspects. �As police officers we owe our nation a duty to prevent crime, and where we are unable to do this, we are required to detect it.�
He noted that to efficiently do this, would demand well-trained and motivated personnel willing to go the extra-mile and that was why the Police Administration was committing its limited resources to train and motivate them.
He gave high marks to the officers and men in the region for helping to bring down crime, and pledged every support to aid them to perform. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Augustine Gyenning, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, asked the participants to take the training seriously in order to stay ahead of criminals.
