In the succinctly elegant words of C.S. Lewis, �Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward � we are halfhearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition �like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by an offer of a holiday at the sea.� C.S. concludes that �We are far too easily pleased.� A call to higher office to serve involves cost and expectation of leadership. The failure of a leader usually results in consequences far more than the fall of a non-leader, so our leaders from the two foremost arms of Government have failed us, i.e. the Executive and the Legislature. I am not deaf, nor dumb neither am I blind, so what I am about to write is based on observation, critical comparative analysis and listening to people, something you are free to call gossip. As someone who works in the media, one is always on the lookout for information, wherever you go, you want to hear what people say and then if the need be and the opportunity present itself, you put it in your writings to bring to the attention of the ruling class, who are expected to effect a change, needed to uplift the people from the shackles of poverty. What is the work of a Member of Parliament MP, this question is simple, provided our will-be MPs and sitting MPs will not go promising heaven on earth. Basically, MPs are supposed to legislate, that means passing laws that goes a long way to shape how things are done in this country. They also lobby for projects to their Constituencies, as well as source for funds to take off the burden on Government, in terms of the provision of certain social amenities. In order to ameliorate their work, Government introduced the MPs Common Fund, which was to go a long way in helping our MPs in their work. What I don�t know is that who monitors to see, how our Honourable men and women expend their Common Fund, how do they account to us, and does the Constituents have a say, as to how that money is used and for what? A disclaimer is appropriate at this point before I proceed, I hope I will not be branded as been a member of the opposition, I am not doing the bidding of anybody, I am not against my MP, as I voted for him and so does his performance affects me. Will posterity forgive me if I sit idle and watch whiles things go from bad to worse, when what I did on December 7, 2012, was to cast my vote to see development come to my Constituency. I am rather a concern Ghanaian, who thinks his MP, has not been fair to the people who put him there and this is according to the people. My admonition today is on Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, who unfortunately is my MP, as I stated earlier, I voted for him and so I have a stake in whether or not he delivers to the good people of the Madina Constituency. Alhaji Sorogho, who has been an MP since 2000, has not done anything substantial for that Constituency, you can hardly point to one developmental project that the MP has initiated or completed in his Constituency, if he has it does not commensurate the number of years, he has been their representative. The place is crying for development, whiles the MP is oblivious of what is happening to his people. The people he will call upon to vote for him again come 2016. He is a distant from them, their cries and yearnings for improvement in their standard of living, regarding their basic needs, such as roads, water etc, all seem not to be a headache of their representative in the August House. The roads in the Constituency is nothing good to write home about, even where you expect potholes to be fixed are left yawning. The youth in the Constituency are complaining, they feel the MP is not up to the task, he only shows interest in their wellbeing, only when elections approaches. It is said that to whom much is given, much is expected. The people of Madina have remained faithful to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), primarily because of the demographics of the place; it is dominated by people of the Northern and Volta Region descent. Since the introduction of multi-party democracy in 1992, they have generally voted for the NDC, yet they is nothing to show for their loyalty. Their crime is their love for the NDC. A drive through Madina Estate, Libya Quarters, infront of Hannah School through to Rawlings Circle, leaves much to be desired. They are not asking for too much from their MP. Alhaji Sorogho, must as a matter of urgency and priority, start being responsive to the needs of the people, the ground is not good and if care is not taken, he will not be going down alone in 2016, the party will suffer the consequence of his actions or inactions. Voter apathy might inform people from coming out in their numbers to vote for the NDC come 2016. What is annoying the people, especially the Youth in the Constituency is the inability of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to choose a credible candidate, who could provide an alternative to Alahji Amadu Sorogho. The only way to get Alhaji Sorogho and many of his colleagues, who to wake up to their responsibility is when they get stiff opposition and the NPP is not providing that. I am in pains because they is a collective impact of what is happening in Madina, the people are not only blaming Alhaji Sorogho, but the ruling NDC. They will be a trickledown effect or what is referred to in Military terms as transfer of aggression on the party. You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time-Abraham Licoln. A word to the wise is enough.
