The Ejura Police have arrested three suspected highway robbers for allegedly shooting and killing a driver's mate, Abubakari Zakari, and robbing others of their money and personal effects.
The suspects are Sulley Ibrahim 25, Jacob Penamb 38, and Maanu Umaru. The fourth is at large and a search is underway to arrest him.
Addressing the press, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Simon Afeku explained that the incident happened on Monday February 3rd at about 8:30pm when an IVECO KIA Truck with registration number AS 2414 P on which they were travelling from Ejura to Lome was forced to stop about 400 meters from Babaso by the armed men robbers.
Two of the suspects, Jacob Penamb and Maanu Umaru have been identified by their victims on an identification parade.
Jacob Penamb who was on board the vehicle as a passenger, joined the others who had already laid ambush in wait for the vehicle and joined the action as soon as the vehicle was stopped.
The other two were arrested a few distance from the scene by the Ejura patrol team who were not far from the scene. One short gun, 2 BB discharged catridges and 6 live BB catridges were found on them.
