NDC Guru Chides TUC

A member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Ametor Quarmyne, says no member of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has the competence to step into the shoes of Finance Minister, Seth Terkper. According to him, no member of the TUC will last even one second at the Finance Ministry because there is a difference between trade unionist and managing an economy. Ametor Quarmyne was reacting to the TUCs statement about the current state of the economy on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme on Monday. The TUC, obviously frustrated about the current socio-economic conditions in the country, blamed government for the quality of economic management. A statement issued in Accra last week said: these bad economic policy choices have been exacerbated by pervasive corruption, cronyism, incompetence and extreme partisanship. The chickens have now come home to roost. The statement signed by General Secretary, Kofi Asamoah, noted that, Ghanaians are facing difficult times; I think we need urgent attention in solving these problems. But Ametor Quarmyne said the TUC as one of the major stakeholders in the economy should have given a fair assessment of the current economic situation on the ground. He says the TUC is not being fair to the president and government, when it creates an impression as if the managers of the economy lack the competence to do so. "Do you think managing the economy is like playing to the gallery at TUC?, he quizzed. Ametor Quarmyne, who accused the TUC of playing to the gallery, urged them to be measured in what they say since it is not fair to just throw words at other people. According to him, Organized Labour is better off under NDC than in any other regime and therefore being unfair to government... We should give praise where praise is due; if somebody is doing the right thing, let us encourage the person to do it more. Consequently, Ametor Quarmyne called for collective responsibility to solving the current economic crisis in the country.
