Driver Snatches Car From Policeman

A Circuit Court in Accra on Tuesday remanded into police custody Stephen Frimpong, a driver for snatching a car from a Policeman at knife point. His accomplice, Yaw Agyemang, a mason, who sustained gun shots in two thighs during his arrest is on admission at the Police hospital. Charged with conspiracy and robbery, Frimpong has pleaded not guilty. He is to reappear on February 26 before the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh told the court that Lance Corporal Daniel Fobih Koya was in charge of a Nissan Almera car. DSP Morkeh said in August last year at about 8:00am Frimpong and Agyeman met and planned to rob drivers of their cars notably taxis. Two days after, Frimpong and Agyeman undertook their operations. At exactly 8:30am, Frimpong approached the complainant to take him to Taifa Burkina. On their way, Frimpong called Agyeman that he was getting nearer to Taifa so he should wait at Yellow House, near Taifa. On reaching Taifa, Frimpong asked the complainant to stop and he (Frimpong) asked him (the complainant) to assist him to remove a bag from the car to the booth. Later, Frimpong asked the complainant to drive further to another house to pick Agyeman and he (the complainant) obliged. On their way, Frimpong pulled out a knife from his sleeve and asked the complainant to surrender his key. DSP Morkeh said the accused persons subjected the complainant to severe beatings and being afraid for his life, gave out the key. The accused persons searched the vehicle and found GH 30 cedis and a drivers license which they took away. On September 1, last year, prosecution said the Police had information that the accused persons sent the vehicle to a mechanic shop to change the number plate. Prosecution said the Police moved to Kwabenya and arrested Frimpong. Agyemang on seeing the Police jumped over a wall but the Police fired at his tow thighs.
