10 Perish In Gory Accidents In Central Region

Ten persons died on Sunday in three separate accidents in the Central Region. The first accident, which took place at Assin Brofoyedur in the Assin North District, claimed three lives, the second one took place at Eyisam in the Ekumfi District and claimed five lives with the third one which happened at Assin Edubiase claiming two lives. The Eyisam accident occurred when a sprinter bus with registration number AS 9719-13 heading towards Accra and loaded with passengers, collided with a 207 bus with registration number AS 879-12 from Accra, heading towards Ashanti Bekwai in the Ashanti Region. The dead included a 14-year-old boy. The bodies were sent to the Saltpond Government Hospital morgue for autopsy. Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the District Police Commander of Mfantseman, DSP David Ashong said the sprinter bus from Accra, on reaching Eyisam, tried to overtake a vehicle ahead of it, in a curve, but unfortunately collided with the other bus resulting in the accident. DSP Ashong hinted that three people died on the spot while the other two gave up the ghost later at the hospital. He added that the injured persons were sent to the Saltpond Government Hospital and the Central Regional Hospital respectively for treatment. At Assin Brofoyedur, the Regional Road Safety Commission Manager, Stephen Anokye said three persons died in the accident which involved three cars. The vehicles were a Tata bus with registration number GC 2736-10, an Urvan bus with registration number AW 474-13 and a Benz with registration number GS 6466-12. Mr Anokye hinted that two persons died on the spot while the other one died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where the injured persons were sent to. He disclosed that the accident happened around 2:30pm. The road safety manager noted that the Urvan and the Tata buses were from the Yamoransah direction heading towards Ashanti Region while the Benz was from the opposite direction. Mr Anokye said on reaching the area, the Urvan bus driver overtook the Tata bus ahead of him and entered into a pothole, which made the Benz driver lose control, colliding with the Urvan bus. He said two people, a six-year-old boy and a female, died in the accident which occurred at Assin Edubiase when a pickup from Elmina heading towards Kumasi in the Ashanti Region hit a big tree in the area. The bodies were sent to Assin Fosu Hospital morgue for autopsy.
