I'll Not Sit Down For Anyone To Misbehave In Volta Region

The Volta Regional Minister, Ransford Afotey Agbo says he will not tolerate any form of misconduct or misbehaviour from assembly members in the region. I am a very strong man and I will not sit down for anyone to misbehave in the region where I am the Regional Minister and also representing the President, he emphasized. His comments come on the back of accusations levelled against him by assembly members in the Ho Municipal Assembly. The Assembly members in a petition signed by 18 out of the 39 members to President John Dramani Mahama and copied to the Minister for Local Government, accused Mr. Afotey Agbo of arrogating to himself powers to control the assembly. According to them, Nii Afotey Agbo allegedly engineered the removal of some government Appointees, most of whom were functionaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the Assembly, just to satisfy his whims and caprices. The Assembly members also said the Volta Regional Minister was obstructing the smooth and democratic functions of the Assembly, by allegedly spearheading the transfer of the Presiding Member of the Ho Municipal Assembly, Mr. Yao Semordey, who is also the Volta Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority and an elected Assembly Member of Ho Central Electoral Area. But speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr Afotey Agbo denied the allegations levelled against him, and stated emphatically that he did not engineer the removal of some government appointees who are members of the NDC. Responding to his critics, the Regional Minister further stated that :What I hate in my life is arrogance, I have gone through a lot and I have worked with people. I have been brought up from a Christian home.I have learnt a lot from home, and I have learnt from prominent people in the country. I have 25 districts under me as a regional minister. If all the districts under me will be working with me in a very cordial relation and those assembly members want to misbehave under my jurisdiction, I will not tolerate that under my watch. In that regard, he emphasized the need for assembly members in the Assembly to have qualities such as love, humility, respect instead of being arrogant and showing gross disrespect to authorities. Humility, respect and love, must be the key.....when people are trying to be arrogant and people think that because they are assembly members, they have to behave like thin gods in their communities I ask questions that when these people become ministers of state in this country, how are they going to carry themselves," he lamented.
