Hospital Staff Vacate Post

Information reaching 'The Chronicle' indicates that some top management members of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital have vacated post because of security reasons. The staff would only return to work when their safety is assured. According to the information gathered, some unidentified youth from the town on Friday, February 7, 2014, raided the hospital to attack some staff, including the mortuary attendant and the hospitals Administrator, Mr. Ezekiel Adama Daridi, who in his quest to intervene was physically assaulted by the youth. Among the staff members who have vacated their post are the hospital administrator, Ezekiel Adama Daridi, the General Manager, Mr. Fred Effah Yeboah and the hospital pharmacist. Reports indicate that the youth were mainly from the traditional council who, out of anger decided to vandalize the fence wall of the hospital, because the hospital management has constructed its own mortuary, even though the Traditional Council has one on the premises of the hospital. When contacted, the Hospital Administrator, Ezekiel Adama Daridi confirmed the attack, saying I was even a victim in my attempt to intervene when the mortuary attendant was being assaulted physically. He could not tell what might have motivated the youth to embark on such a barbaric act, but insisted the place was currently not safe for them to work. According to him, he has handed over until the security at the facility improves. He said, during the incident he called the Municipal Police Commander for Dormaa, Mr. Issifu Mahmoud, who detailed the police to the scene, but no arrest was made. The Municipal Chief Executive of Dormaa, Gordon Kwaku Asubonteng also confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate. He, however, assured that no stone would be left unturned until the culprit had been arrested. He revealed having met with the management to calm tempers, whilst the members of the Board had also met and discussed how best to resolve the issue. Mr. Asubonteng added that the paramount chief of Dormaa, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu and other chiefs have also been contacted, who have expressed their dismay over the incident. He said upon several meetings and consultation, some of the management members has assured that they would rescind their initial decision.
