Court Convicts People Building Without Permit

The Agona Swedru Magistrate Court has imposed a fine of 7, 200 Ghana cedis each on two estate developers operating without building permits in the Agona West Municipal Assembly. Yaw Adams and Margaret Nyakoh pleaded guilty. The court ordered that their buildings shall be demolished if they fail to pay the fines. The court presided over by Mr Kweku Baah Frempong, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Madam Akua Benyiwah who failed to appear before it. Two others, Yaw Oduro and Yakubu Adams, were ordered by the court to regularize their building documents with the Agona West Municipal Assembly and reappear in court on March 12. Prosecuting, an official of Agona West Municipal Environmental Health Office, Mr John Nyameiah, told the court that the convicts put up buildings without permits from the Assembly. He said the Task-force of the Assembly during their inspection arrested and 60 others found to have built without permit would be arraigned. The prosecution said more than 500 authorized buildings in the Municipality had made it difficult to open up access roads as a result of which the Assembly had lost huge revenue in respect of building permits.
