The CEO of Green Grass Technology, Frank Boahene has revealed that his outfit has had to borrow money from banks and credit facilities to maintain the pitches at the four national stadia due to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority�s failure to provide the Field Design Construction and Landscaping Company with maintenance allowances for over one year. Boahene who was an ex-footballer at Reading FC and the Head of Co-Operate Grounds at Fulham FC calims his company has had to look for financial assistance from elsewhere to maintain the pitches of Ghana's four stadia as government is yet to honour its side of the contract., �We have to keep borrowing money from the banks and institutions to sustain the maintenance of the pitches. This week, the pitch had to be re-fed at the Accra Sports Stadium, fertilized and buy insecticide so that the seed is not eaten by insects. Sometimes, we have to find money to buy water to make sure that the pitch does not go too dry when the funds are not available,� Frank Boahene told Power 103.5FM Green Grass Technology has been servicing the Accra, Sekondi, Tamale and Kumasi Baba Yara Stadia since undertaking a contract with the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations Local Organizing Committee to refurbish the pitches at the four national stadia. In the last 12 months, Green Grass Technology has struggled to fund the maintenance of the pitches, which also led to the Accra Sports Stadium turf losing its color and becoming dry.
