State Of The Nations Address: Minority Cautioned

Policy Analyst of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) has asked the minority Members of Parliament (MP) to extensively discuss the content of the Presidents State of the Nations Address and not merely pass cursory remarks. President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, 25th February 2014, deliver the State of the Nation Address before Parliament according to Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution. According to sources at the Presidency, the address will focus on the economy, the energy situation and challenges facing the provision of water as well as challenges in the educational, health and agricultural sectors in the country. Atik Mohammed said more often than not, the minority in Parliament after the State of the Nations Address is delivered just second the majority Members of Parliament in accepting the address without any form of debate; and this according to him, should not be the case. Speaking to the issue on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed said it is important for Minority members in parliament to really represent Ghanaians by critically analyzing the content of the address and not only accept it. Sometimes I dont feel excited listening to the minority simply because after the Presidents state of the nations address, they just second without having an extensive discussion of his presentation. Our MPs must do us some service. They should do that which they are required to do especially the minority. Definitely there will be some critical points for discussions in the Presidents presentation and so the minority should not just second in accepting the address, Atik asserted.
