Airtel Ghana Employees Show Love To Two Orphanages

As part of this years Valentine celebration, employees of Airtel Ghana, the CIMG Telecoms Operator of the year, donated food items valued at GHC15,000 to two orphanages, Handi Vangelism Ministries Ghana and Save them Young International, in Accra and Tema. The food items, which included boxes of Indomie, biscuits, chocolate drinks, fruit juice, milk, bags of rice, cooking oil etc., were donated by employees as part of a departmental Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative dubbed Valentine Food Drive, aimed at encouraging members of staff to show kindness to the less privileged in the month of February, known to be the month of Love. Presenting the items, the CSR and Employee Engagement Manager of Airtel Ghana, Maame Dufie Cudjoe, said Airtel Ghana encourages its employees to participate in its CSR activities so as to help them develop a communal spirit. The success of the food drive initiate, according to her, was due to team work and enthusiasm exhibited by employees. The initiative was solely owned by staff. Each department came up with innovative ways to raise money to buy the food items. At the end of the competition, it was also employees who nominated the beneficiary Orphanages. She disclosed that Airtel Ghana was always on the look-out to spot opportunities to make meaningful contribution to society. Our multiple award-winning initiative, Touching Lives, now in its third season, is one such programme that has helped establish many individuals in our communities. The Head of Corporate Communications at Airtel Ghana, Mr. Donald Gwira, added that the donation was not the first time Airtel Ghana was taking up such initiatives. According to him, Airtel Ghana as a socially responsible company believes in assisting the under-privileged in the communities by giving them the necessary support to get them on their feet. Accepting the items, founders of the two orphanages, Rev. Opoku Amoaben Colleen of Save them Young and Pastor Randolph Ashley of Handi Vangelism Ministry explained that they set up the orphanages as their contribution to the development of mankind and were grateful for the kind gesture shown them by Airtel Ghana.
