The University of Ghana has closed all entries into the school with the exception of the Okponglo end, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation reported Wednesday.
This, according to the report, follows the suspension of the collection of tolls by the University.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ernest Aryittey, who announced the suspension and subsequent closure of the entries, called on government to redeem its promise of paying for the $2.3 million the University contracted for infrastructural projects.
The closure of the entry points means there will be only one entry and exit for the public, possibly compounding the traffic situation on the Tetteh Quarshie-Madina road.
It is not clear if the demolition of a toll booth around the Okponglo entrance of the university informed the decision to shut the entry points.
The demolition exercise was carried out last Tuesday by operatives of the National Security Council (NSC).
The NSC Coordinator, Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, said the siting of the tollbooth in that area had caused traffic jams and created "disaffection to the public".
The demolition triggered condemnation from the university, which described the NSC's action as disrespectful and unilateral.
The ensuing brouhaha compelled the government to intervene, offering to pay the $2.3 million the university expended on infrastructural projects and calling for an end to the toll collection.
