Traders Want Mahama To Make Good His Promises

Traders in some parts of Accra have appealed to President Mahama to make good his promises to improve on the economy for all to benefit. This, they said, would boost sales and also cause them to import more goods into the country as their imports had dwindled due to the high cost of importation, which had come about due to the destabilization of the cedi. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday on the Presidents State of the Nation address, the traders unanimously called on him to fire any Minister of state who would hinder the realization of improving the economy as he had promised. Mr Amankwa Barnie, a second hand shoe dealer at La Paz, a surburb in Accra said although he did not get time to listen to the address, he was optimistic that whatever the President said was in the interest of the country and Ghanaians. He expressed concern about the rising cost of second hand goods imported into the country and had the hope that whatever the President said about the economy was good enough to address the rising cost of imported goods. Mr Ishmeal Laryea, a fabric dealer also at La Paz, expressed his disappointment with the message, saying it was a repetition of last year's. He noted that last year, the President promised to make the economy vibrant but traders had seen nothing but a sharp rise in the prices of goods and services. In his address last year, the President promised to do all within his power to ensure that he and his team worked to ensure that the economy was stable, but all that we have seen this year is the constant rise of the dollar making things very difficult for us who deal in imported goods, he explained. The trader wondered whether the President had forgotten about the Better Ghana Agenda as he never heard him make mention of it in yesterdays State of the Nations Address. Nana Yaa Beasi, a tomato seller at Makola, expressed dismay at the Government for "stealing Nana Akuffo Addo, the NPP presidential aspirant's idea to implement free SHS for all. She called on the President to do well to credit Nana Addo with the free SHS policy in case he was able to implement it in the 2015-2016 academic year as he had promised.
