A church usher of Agape House New Testament Church at East Legon in Accra, who stole a cheque and unspecified monies belonging to the church was on Thursday sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Stephen Asamoah Baah, a pest controller pleaded guilty to stealing. The court presided over by Ms Ellen Vivian Amoah, therefore convicted Baah on his own plea. The court noted that as an usher, he should have a good appreciation of good moral character. Prosecuting Chief Inspector Charles Chester told the court that Baah was an usher who was assigned the role of selling the church�s stickers and paraphernalia�s. On December 20, last year, Baah packed some T-shirts which were being offered for sale into a store room where offertory boxes were kept. Baah went into the room and when he realised that nobody was watching him, he picked up one of the offering boxes, raised and shook it and stole one of the envelopes containing monies being tithes and offering collected that day and left for home On December 23, this year when the church administrator was checking the monies he detected that a particular envelope containing money which one of the congregation personally handed to the church was missing. Prosecution said this prompted the church to replay the Close Circuit Camera Television and Baah was seen removing the envelope together with others . A report was made to the Police and Baah was arrested. During a search in Baah�s room, Chief Inspector Chester said tithes envelopes, a cheques with face value of GHc 200 and GHc 13,000 were found.
