An Accra Circuit Court last Thursday remanded in prison custody eight suspected armed robbers, for allegedly robbing Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South Constituency.
The accused, William Odoi, 22, Zebulon Anyeteye, 22, Buabeng Kingsley, 21, Karim Seidu, 23, Richard Mensah, 20, Daniel Yemo Tetteh, 22, and Daniel Ashiteh, 24, pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri Yeboah. The ninth person, Pennin Aya, is on the run.
The prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Dauti Tuaruka, told the court that, on January 2, this year at Community 11, Lashibi at about 2:30 a.m., the residence of Gershon Gbediame was attacked by armed robbers.
He said the robbers armed with pump action guns and pistols, assaulted the occupants of the house, including the MP and robbed them of six mobile phones, three laptops, two ipads, jewellery, and cash of GH�5,000 and US$7,500.
The prosecutor said that same day, a report was made to the police by Mr Gbediame.
Frantic efforts and persistent surveillance, led to the arrest of William Odoi on February 15, and the Samsung phone was retrieved from him.
Upon interrogation, William mentioned Daniel as the one who sold the phone to him for GH�800, out of which he paid GH�500 and told him to come for the remainder three days later.
According to the prosecutor, Daniel was traced to his hideout at First Junction, Melcom and arrested, together with Buabeng and Kabiru, after being lured to go for the remaining GH�300.
Upon interrogation, William, mentioned Pennin, as the one who gave him the phone to be sold.
He further said that, when the police went to William�s house at La-Agyemang and a search was conducted in his room, the original housing of the phone was retrieved. William then led the police to arrest his colleagues at their hideout.
The case has been adjourned to March 4.
