President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an office complex in Cape Coast for use as the Central Regional secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Named after the late President, Prof. J.E.A Mills, the office complex was financed by the regional secretariat with support from the national office and certain individuals and groups. It is the second regional office to have its own offices. The first is the Northern Regional office in Tamale. The office has among other facilities two conference halls and offices for various regional officers. President Mahama commended the regional secretariat for the initiative and urged other regional and constituency secretariats yet to have their own offices to emulate the example. He said as the biggest political party in the country, the NDC was expected to do more to strengthen its structures. The President took a serious view of claims made by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that he stole the free senior secondary school (SHS) concept from the NPP. He said his checks from the Registrar General�s Office indicated that no one owned the intellectual property of free SHS education in Ghana. Besides, he said, while he talked about progressive free SHS education, the NPP propagated a wholly free education from the scratch. He reiterated the fact that the 1992 Constitution mentions progressive free SHS education, which negates the NPP's claim to be the originators of the idea. The National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, said the NDC would beat the NPP squarely in the 2016 elections. "When we beat them, we don't expect them to go to court again," he said. He urged party members to work hard to further build the party into a winsome side. A member of the Council of State, Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, said the party must focus on reaching out to more people outside it. The regional chairman of the NDC, Mr Adu Yeboah, said the construction of the office was made possible through the collective efforts of all members of the party in the region. Those at the ceremony included the regional minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, and the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah.
