Nana Addo Arrives In Ghana

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Wednesday night arrived in the country from the United Kingdom where he had been on vacation. Attempts by his security detail to make his arrival a low key failed. All along, there were clear attempts at diverting the attention of the media and party supporters who had thronged the Kotoka International Airport to welcome him back. Before his plane touched down at the airport, his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the company of the deputy women's organizer of the party, Mrs Tina Mensah, were spotted heading towards the staff entry point of the airport. All this while, several attempts at knowing exactly where he would emerge from had been kept from the media. But the real diversion was yet to come when all had expectantly gathered at the staff entry point awaiting the arrival of Nana Akufo-Addo but to the surprise of all, he emerged from the public arrival point donning a black suit and a grey overcoat. When the crowd spotted him, they started shouting "our president has arrived" while others took out their cameras to get a shot of him. But he was quickly whisked away into his awaiting Benz saloon car and driven off to his residence. Prior to that, he had said that he had nothing to say at the airport and that he would be ready to address the press today. Traffic came to a temporary halt as his security detail escorted him into his vehicle before he was whisked away. It would be recalled that Nana Akufo-Addo announced his decision to take a break from politics, hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition on August 29, 2013. He, together with his running mate, Dr. Bawumia and the National Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey had challenged the Electoral Commission's declaration of President John Mahama as winner of the 2012 presidential election.
