The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) has inducted its new national executives into office to steer the affairs of the Association for the next two years. The ceremony which took place at its national congress in Wa at the weekend saw the swearing in of Mr James Dugrah of the Wa Polytechnic as the National President and Mr Richard Osei, as Vice President. Messrs Adamu Ibrahim, Dache Alexander Akaarabe and Acquah Lawrence are the new General Secretary, Organizing Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Mr Dugra on behalf of the new executives pledged to run an open and transparent administration and unite members to fight a common cause for the national survival of the association and remain relevant to the cause of polytechnic education. �We must rebrand Polytechnic education and free ourselves as trainers of job seekers to trainers of job creators�. To this end all outstanding issues such as the cancellation of the Book and Research allowance by the government would be vigorously pursued to ensure that the government reverses its decision. Mr Francis Atintono, the out-going National President of the association advised the in-coming executives not to allow their political affiliations affect their professional competence. They should also effectively collaborate with other unions even as they strive to carve their own path to satisfy the desires of their members. Outstanding issues that the new executive would tackle among others are restoration of utility allowance, market premium for PhD holders in the Polytechnics and immediate reversal of the decision to replace the Book and Research allowance with the National Research Fund.
