Nana Addo Fever Grips Kumasi

Anxious Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to throng the Kumasi Airport this afternoon to welcome the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, who is paying a two-day visit to the Ashanti Region. Nana Addo is expected to make a triumphant entry into the Garden City, the stronghold of the party, few days after arriving from a six-month holiday in the United Kingdom. The 2012 NPP Presidential candidate will be expected to visit the Manhyia Palace to officially pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and formally inform him of his arrival in the country. He is also expected, according to the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to join the Asante King to observe the special Awukudae festival at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday. Nana Addo, who is highly tipped by many supporters of the party to make a third time bid for the presidency, will also throng some principle streets of the city and respond to cheers and greetings from enthusiastic supporters of the party. He would tour popular places like the Central Market, Bantama, Adum and Asafo, where a large crowd of supporters are expected to catch a glimpse of him. Nana Addo arrived in the country on March 6, 2014, after almost six months of holidays in the United Kingdom, amidst pressure from party stalwarts to make a definite decision on his political future, ahead of the 2016 general elections. Though several leading members of the party have dropped hints about the intention of the twice defeated candidate to contest again, doubting Thomases are waiting to hear an official declaration from the horses own mouth. Information available to The Chronicle indicates that many more pressure groups within the party in the Ashanti Region are expected to intensify the call, through the display of placards and T-shirts, calling on him to come again in 2016.
