FAMILIES OF the victims of the Allied Cargo Plane which crushed on June 2, 2012 near the El-Wak Sports Stadium have not received any insurance compensation almost two years after the incident. The Boeing 727-200 operated by Nigerians after a poor take-off at the runway of Kotoka International Airport came down smashing a 207 Benz commuter bus, killing all the 10 passengers on board, including the driver. The families of the deceased are complaining bitterly after almost two years of struggling for the compensation. Though a report on the crush was presented to the Minister of Transport which indicated that the cause of the crush was as a result of the negligence of the pilots, management of the aircraft, according the livid family members, has still not paid them any compensation. Some parents and relatives of the victims told the Daily Heritage that they are tired of the way they have been treated over the years on the matter and are appealing to the sector minister to intervene on their behalf. Some of the victims left behind children to be catered for, but the cumbersome nature of documentation on the compensation package for the families have left the children dejected. It would be recalled that a few days after the crush, a five-member independent committee was set up to investigate what actually caused the accident and make recommendations. In September 2012, a report was presented to the sector Minister in charge of transport. When receiving the report, Mrs Dzifa Attivor said payment of insurance to the deceased was an issue between the aircraft owners and the families of the deceased.
