BCI In Massive Breast Cancer Screening @ AOB

Breast Care International (BCI) and Peace and Love Hospitals have partnered the Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Hon. Mrs. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah to conduct free breast cancer education and clinical breast screening for women in the consistuency. The breast cancer education and screening carried out at three places namely Bremang Asikuma, Bremang Brakwa and Agona Odoben in the Bremang Asikuma consistuency in the Central Region was part of the International Women�s Day celebration. At all the communities visited, where women in the constituency have gathered for the education and screening, Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of BCI and C.E.O of Peace and Love Hospitals explained the devastating effects of breast cancer on the nation and the world at large. The women were informed that although the cause(s) of breast cancer is unknown, some potential risk factors have been identified and it is imperative for them to have knowledge of the risk factors. The various forms of diagnoses of the disease and the techniques of breast self-examination were explained to the with strong encouragement for them to undertake monthly BSE. Dr. Wiafe Addai encouraged to the women to seek expert medical care if they detect anything abnormal with their breasts and not resort to the use of herbal concoctions that cannot cure their breast related illness. The education was preceded by clinical breast screening, which saw a substantial number of women taking part in the exercise at all the three centres to know their status with regard to the presence of any abnormality with their breasts. Hon. Samuel Adom Botwe, the DCE of the area, also lamented that myths and misconceptions still surround breast cancer in the developing world. He praised BCI and Peace and Love Hospitals for instituting grassroot education and breast screenings to create and sustain awareness about breast cancer in rural communities, whiles promoting early detection for prompt treatment. Among the dignitaries presents were Dr. Kwadwo Linsey, District Director of Health, Mr. Noah Mends, Director of Nursing, and Rev. Sis. Edwitch (In-charge Catholic Hospital).
