Nana Akomea, former Minister for Manpower and social Welfare and former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has endorsed Mr. Paul Afoko as his preferred choice for the position of National Chairman of NPP.
He urged that in the most likely prospect that Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo becomes the party�s flagbearer for the 2016, it is only proper that the chairmanship position of the party goes to Paul Afoko so that the two can work together to heal the wounds and foster unity in the party.
Nana Akomea also praised Paul Afoko for his broad based support across the country, his contributions to the party all levels and his ability to communicate in several dialects especially of northern Ghana and said all these will make the NPP more attractive to many more Ghanaians.
Paul Afoko, an aspirant to the National Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party, has said that he represents the broader mass of the Ghanaian populace that the NPP needs to win elections and therefore choosing him as chairman will brighten the chances of the party at the 2016 general elections.
He said NPP needs to make inroads into the three northern regions and all the other norther settler communities in southern Ghana to cross the 50+1 barrier, adding that �my chairmanship will not only help break that barrier but will also go a long way to erase the erroneous perception that the NPP is an Akan party.
Addressing delegates from all the 29 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Afoko said the 2010 population census shows that 46 per cent of the Brong Ahafo Region is made of northern settlers, 36 per cent of the Western region is made up of northern settlers while 26 per cent of Ashanti Region is also made up of northern settlers.
He said if the party thinks strategically and makers power in 2016 its main goal then the choice of who should be National Chairman at this time of the party�s history should be obvious to all.
