Encourage Children To Study French

The wife of the Asantehene, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, has urged parents to do more to encourage their kids to study French. That should not just be for purposes of examination but to effectively communicate and transact business with those in the neighbouring Francophone countries. She was speaking during the maiden national French Quiz competition for junior high school (JHS) students organized by her Foundation, the Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children (SAFC) in Kumasi. Those who participated were from Kumasi, Cape Coast, Accra, Takoradi and Tema. Known as Lady Julia French Quiz competition it was put together by the SAFC and the Alliance Francaise. Master Alhasan Diabate of Accra New Town Experimental JHS emerged the winner and for his prize, he received a laptop computer, half-piece of the Asantehene�s anniversary wax print, certificate, exercise books, French dictionary, �T� shirt, Indomie products and a round trip to Morocco (tickets and all expenses included). The runner up, Master Martinson Bediako of Holy Child R/C Basic, Sakumono, Tema took home a Samsung galaxy tablet, GH�2,000.00 scholarship, anniversary cloth, �T� shirt, exercise books, French dictionary, certificate and Indomie products. The third position was taken by Miss Ophelia Adjei-Sah, Salvation Army JHS at Tema, and she was also presented with a Samsung galaxy tablet, certificate, exercise books, French dictionary, �T� shirt, indomie products. Lady Julia who is already sponsoring some students studying French said she would do all she could to promote the language. Mr Sarfo Kantanka, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, scored high marks to the wife of the Asante King for her initiative and drive. He appealed to the French Colleges of Education and teachers to be innovative and help make the teaching and learning of the language lively to school kids.
