Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is singing discordant tunes in their analysis of the economy. Coming from the same party, he said, one would have thought the NPP will have one voice, however leading members of the opposition party keep contradicting each other on national issues. Kofi Adams was commenting on the lecture presented by the 2012 Vice-Presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Speaking on the topic, �Restoring the Value of the Cedi� at a Public Lecture organized by the Central University College (CUC) at their Miotso campus in Prampram, Dr. Bawumia raised several issues bordering on the economy. One of the issues had to do with the brouhaha surrounding the implementation and sustainability of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP). Dr. Bawumia said neither the SSPP nor the dollarization of the economy is the cause of the poor economic performance. Prior to this, a Former Finance Minister, Dr. Anthony Akoto-Osei had advised government to consider suspending portions of the SSPP as its full implementation could not be sustained. Juxtaposing these two comments, Kofi Adams said �there are contradictions in the presentation of key personalities in the NPP�. �There are two things, either one set is lying for political advantage or when it comes to issues of economic analysis, we will all approach it with different thoughts and approach it from different angles. I will go for the first one; I think one is doing it for a certain political advantage�. He added that Dr. Bawumia made those comments to favour his political ambitions. He averred that Dr. Bawumia, who is also a Visiting Professor of Economic Governance at CUC, �didn�t say anything new apart from bringing out figures which are not true�. However, the Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, Kwamena Duncan strongly disagrees. He was of the opinion that Dr. Bawumia was at his �usual� best. He described him as a Prophet because he has been vindicated in his prognosis of the economy. �Everything he said was on point,� he said.
