Residents of Odupongkpehe at Kasoa in the Central Region have been placed under unofficial dusk-to-dawn curfew by masquerading marijuana smokers who have built their tents between the Odupongkpehe D/A Basic School and Glory Daycare Foundation.
According to them, aside the gang ransacking their rooms anytime they run short of money to purchase narcotic substances to get high, they are introducing truant school children in the community to smoking of �wee�.
Snippets of the information gathered by the Daily Heritage indicate that residents, who dare report their activities to the security agencies, are shit-bombed for at least a week to serve as a lesson.
Gloria Akufo, an aggrieved resident, who spoke to the paper, observed that after the drug users have had their sleep in the ghettos and shacks they have built in the area, they line up in the vantage routes in the community to smoke the �herbs.�
�It is difficult for friends and relatives to visit us because they are scared of the wee smokers who have gained notoriety, unless they call you on your mobile phone to escort them home they would not come,� she lamented.
She added that visitors hardly walk alone in the alleys of the community without being attacked by the gangs.
According to her, the drug users break into their rooms to steal their valued belongings when hard-pressed for money to order for supplies of their narcotic substances.
�They have broken into my room twice with knives and clubs. Three of them nearly lynched my daughter to death for raising an alarm for picking a bag full of clothes from our room had it not been for a Good Samaritan who saved her life.�
The strategy some of us have adopted is to lock ourselves into our rooms after 6:00pm because �you dare not report them to the police for fear of being maimed in the evening,� Mrs. Akufo intimated.
Agnes Out, 70-year-old resident, lamented that the marijuana smokers assaulted her for raising alarm when they were stealing from her room.
And, for her punishment, she claimed that they defecated in front of her doorpost and �I had to endure the plight of cleaning the fecal matter.�
She appealed to the security agencies to come to their aid to rid the neighborhood of the criminals who have taken them hostage.
