Rainstorm Cause Havoc In Cape Coast And KEEA

A heavy rainstorm Thursday afternoon destroyed property running into millions of cedis in the Cape Coast metropolis and the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) municipality. About 15 buildings at Effutu Mampong in the Cape Coast metropolis including the Effutu Mampong Community School and the Abakam Presbyterian School had their roofs ripped off by the rainstorm The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator for Cape Coast, Alhaji Yusif Farouk Adamu said his office was gathering information on affected households, while his colleague for the KEEA municipality, Mr Anthony Cobbinah, said seven communities in the municipality were the most affected. These communities are Elmina Township, Broyibima, Etrue, Abrem Agona, Abrem Essiam, Elmina Bantuma and Pershie. Mr Cobbinah said four schools including the Elmina Catholic Boys, Elmina Methodist and Anglican School in Elmina had their roofs ripped off. Items destroyed were mostly electrical gadgets such as television sets and refrigerators. �Now many of the affected need roofing sheets and a few basic things to go through the situation but we in the municipal office don�t have anything here,� he said. He indicated that the office had informed the national secretariat of NADMO for prompt response.
