The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on Friday, donated relief items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis, to victims of a recent rainstorm at Dzalele in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region.
The items included 400 pieces each of blankets and roofing sheets, 50 bags of rice, 30 cartons of soap, 30 boxes of mosquito coils, 200 mosquito nets and 1000 pieces each of plastic plates and cups.
About 400 people were affected in the March 27, disaster, in which a total of 82 buildings either had their roofs ripped off, walls affected or totally collapsed.
Trees were uprooted and power lines were also destroyed in that storm.
Two people, one, an expectant mother, who were among seven people injured, were said to be still on admission in a health facility.
Mr. Gavivina Tamakloe, NADMO Director in charge of Relief and Reconstruction, presenting the items, appealed to the victims to appreciate and bear with the organization.
He said NADMO will have to attend to the people of Ziope, Kadjebi and Ahamansu, who were also affected by the same disaster in the region around the same time as Dzalele.
Mr. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Akatsi North Member of Parliament (MP) commended NADMO�s prompt response, which he said had been very touching to him.
He asked the residents to put the calamity behind them, maintaining what he called communal love for each other.
Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, said the Assembly had taken steps to immediately re-roof the basic school block affected by the storm.
He said the Assembly will encourage massive tree planting in the area to serve as wind breaks and shades to improve the ecology there.
Mr. Simon Bakar, Volta Regional NADMO Coordinator said sub-standard and weak buildings would normally fall during such severe storms, and advised private developers to �wake up� and pull them down, or repair them when prompted.
Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, Speaker of Parliament and former MP for the area, who was also around to sympathize with the people, commended them for their support for him over the years, stressing he will ever remember them.
Togbi Seth Dogli the seond, Paramount Chief of Dzalele, thanked government for the prompt response.
