2 Robbers Jailed 70yrs

SAMUEL KWAME Akwetey, popularly known as Kwame Agbeko, 35, and Isaac Agbomor, also well known as Baba, 22, have been sentenced to a total of seventy years imprisonment by a Koforidua circuit court presided over by Ebenezer Osei, for robbery. The two got 35 years each and were among a six-robbery gang syndicate standing trial at the court for a number of robbery cases recorded in the New Juaben Municipality. Kwame Agbeko, 35, ring leader and his gang members were charged with different counts based on the role each played in the over 16 armed robbery incidents such as the recent serial hotel robbery, the medical village robbery and several violent crimes including rape of their female victims. The prosecutor, Mrs. Emilly Addo -Kyere presenting the facts of the case said on September 22, 2013, the two accused persons and their accomplice, Harrison Ofori (at large) wielding guns and cutlass cut the metal rod fixed on the window of the hall and broke into the room of the complainant, Jennifer Boadi while asleep with the family. The accused persons then ordered their victims to come out of their rooms and surrender all their belongings. In the process, five pieces of mobile phones including an HTC mobile Phone valued GH�700.00, 2 Toshiba laptops, a 43 inch plasma TV set, multi TV decoder, all worth GH�6,800 and cash of $300 were stolen by the accused robbers. The robbers also attempted to rape the complainant, but she was in her menstrual period which set her free. According to the prosecutor, the case was reported to the police and while investigations were ongoing, Agbeko and Agbomor were arrested in connection with another robbery cases on the January 24, 2014. The prosecutor said the two accused persons during interrogation and caution statement confessed that they were responsible for the robberies and were subsequently charged with the offence. The two accused persons pleaded guilty and were sentenced into prison custody. However, they will appear in court again to stand trial on other robberies embarked upon by their gang on Wednesday. The other members of the gang standing trials are Godwin Ametorwonyo, 38, Gideon Boateng, 38-driver, Mohammed Zibbo, 32, trader (on police enquiry bail) and Charles Awuku, 47, who received and sold the booty from their operations.
